The Day Before The Event

I feel kind of scared about the math test tomorrow and Wednesday because it's very important for me to pass.I think i feel this way because this test determines if I am going to pass.I like math, and I think 8th grade math isn't as hard as 7th grade math.I think a good project we could do in math is a to create a math problem for your partner to solve and see if they have the same answer as you.I think High school will be O.K. for me.One thing i am confident about in high school is that i will make lots of friends and I am smart so I am set.Something I think I need to improve on is measurement.I need to improve on my measurement because I don't know the table measurements, like 3 cups = ? ounces.Stuff like that.3 academic goals I would like to accomplish are to do well on the Math test and to get into a good high school and to pass all of my other tests like the social studies test and the science test.

Rotations

We turn our papers when drawing rotations to help us get an idea of what the new figure will look like.This helps to predict where and how the rotation will turn out because if for example, a triangle was in quadrant one and I had to rotate it clockwise 90 degrees, I would just turn my paper clockwise so that the figure would appear to be in quadrant four.A rotated figure does not change in size nor shape.It just changes in location.A rotated figure is different from a reflected one because when you reflect a figure it is just flipped over the x or y-axis.But when you rotate a figure, your turning the figure either clockwise or counterclockwise, and draw it in another quadrant.If we rotate a figure 90 degrees clockwise and then rotate it again 90 degrees counterclockwise, the figure will end up in the same place it was in in the first place.If we rotate a figure 360 degrees counterclockwise, the figure will also end up in the same place as it first began.There is no difference when you rotate a figure 180 degrees counterclockwise or clockwise.

Reflections

A reflection is like a mirror image because the figure does not change in size or shape, just location.You can reflect an image over the x-axis or y-axis without knowing the exact rules by counting how many squares are in between the original figure and the axis in which you are flipping it over.Then you count that exact number of squares from the axis and plot your point.The original figure and it's reflection are exactly equal distance from the line of symmetry because the reflected figure has to be the exact same thing as the original (mirror image).I think we could find the line of symmetry if we were given the points of the original figure and the reflection.When I look at two figures, I know which is the transformation because the transformation will allways have an aphostrophe ( A' ) at the top of each letter or point.

Dilations

A dilated figure changes in size, and location.When we zoom into a photo the image becomes either clearer or blury.Zooming relates to dilation because when you dilate a figure you are either making the figure larger or smaller.When a figure undergoes a dilation with ascale factor of 1.5, becomes larger.The figure becomes larger because when you multiply a figure by a number greater than 1, the figure becomes lager.However, when you multiply a figure by a number less than 1, the figure becomes smaller.Dilations differ from Translations because when you dilate a figure, you are changing the size of the figure.When you find the translation of figure, you are finding the new location of the figure (or it's prime).Multiplying by 1/3 is the same as dividing by 3 because when you multiply a number by 1/3 you have to divide the numerator by the denominator.For example, if you wanted to find 1/3 of 16, you just multiply 1/3and 16/1.Which gives you 16/3, which is also the same as 16 divided by 3.

Transformations-Translations

  1. When I look at two figures on a coordinate plane, I now which one is the transformation because the transformation always has a comma above it.The new points are called translations.A word that I would use when describing a translation would be sliding.I would use sliding because when you identify a figure on a coordinate plane you might notice that the transformation is congruent to the original, its just moved across the coordinate plane.A translated figure will never change in size or shape because the figure was just moved across.You can translate a figure without a coordinate plane by subtracting the coordinates.

Angles part-2

When given the words,''one is twice as large as the other'', I know what the first angle is because if the second angle is twice as large as the first, then the first angle is half the second angle's measure.I know when to plug in a variable into an equation when the directions say,''one is five degrees bigger than the other'', because if the first angle measured x degrees and the second measured 45.The equation would be x+5=45.First, I would subtract 5 on both sides, which gives me 40.Therefore, x=40.Corresponding angles are congruent.They are not vertical.The word congruent means the same.For example, vertical angles are congruent, but supplementary angles are not congruent.Two angles cannot be both supplementary and corresponding because supplementary angles are angles that are added to equal 180 degrees, and corresponding angles are angles that equal the same.The four angles that are formed around a line and a transversal equal 360 degrees.This is always the case because a quadrilateral always equals 360 degrees.

Angles part-1

I know when to set an equation that equals 90 degrees because when I have to find the missing angle of a Complementary angle, I know both angles have to equal 90 degrees.For example, one complement is 54 degrees, I have to subtract 54 from 90 to give me 36 degrees.When we set angles that are equal to each other, it is called Congruent.We are incorrectly solving these problems if we only solve for x.For example, 12+x+10+x=90.First we have to combine the like terms,which are x and x.To give us 2x.Then we combine 12 and 10,to give us 22.Then we subtract 22 from 90 to give us 68.Finally, we have to divide 68 by 2,to give us 34 is equal to x.But that's not all we have to do.We also have to plug in the 34 as x in the angles side lengths to find the actual sum of the sides.For example, 12+34=46 and 10+34=44.So 44+46=90.The word Congruent means the same or equal to.Vertical angles are congruent, but complementary angles and supplementary angles are not.Other types of angles that are congruent are corresponding angles.
